AMT (IPYG) with BBC for Solving Arakan Armed Conflict: Jan-11-2019

Aung Myint Thu at BBC News on 11 Jan-2019

We Rakhine, Arakense youth discussed about Rakhine political and armed tension at BBC Burmese studio, while the fighting between Arakan Army (AA/ United League of Arakan) – Rakhine rebel and the government Army were going on. We were with BBC for an hour on 11th January, 2019.

There were three of us: Miss. Thiri- Arakanese young lady studying about armed conflict, Mr.Tin Htoo Aung- the stakeholder as well as the president of Arakan National Network and myself-Aung Myint Thu- as peacemaker from International Peace Youth Group (IPYG). I discussed in this youth talk to build CSO stronger in Rakhine/Arakan in order to be in right truck because CSO is to be acted like the third party in solving conflict.

There are many youth organizations under CSO name, working for the community. However, it is not yet very strong to be the third party. Only when we CSO are very strong, will we be middle men, giving good push in creating the space for the peace dialogue. Of course, the war between AA and the Govt Army needs to be stopped right away for there has been already more than 6000 IDPs.
